My ultimate is that a wedding should focus on, and reflect, the bride and groom. It should be personal to you as a couple and meaningful. It is so easy to get lost in tradition and you can end up spending time, and money, on things that really don't matter to you and don't contribute in making your day personal. Think about places you have been together, look at photos of you both and your history, look around your home, these are the things that really portray you.
In terms of colour schemes or themeing for your wedding it may help to produce a moodboard of things that you like or set up a pinterest (if you haven't heard of this yet it is your own personal online moodboard where you can share your favourite images and also get inspiration from others!). A moodboard helps you realise what look your are going for and gives you something to reflect back on when in need of inspiration.

Interested in travel? Have you been to lots of destinations together or are there places you dream of visiting as a married couple? Have your table names displayed to look like postcards, name your tables after destinations, guests names could be written on luggage tags for their placename, have your menu in the centre as a passport...

Visit here to find a tutorial on how to make these fab 'save the date' postcards!
Interested in horses? Have your table numbers in a horse silouette and each guest's place cards as rosettes. (The one's below are by the fabulous Fiona Leahy Design for a Jubilee party, however you can customise them to your colour scheme and insert guest's names)
Love tea? Have name settings attached to a tea bag draped over the rim of a beautifully vintage tea cup & saucer and tea pots as your table centre with colourful flowers in.

A room can look simply stunning (and created very cheaply) with candles. I personlly LOVE candles, they create a romantic, luxurious atmosphere and have maximum impact. You could have grand candleabras as a table centre or a mix of all types of candles on the tables, ledges and surfaces, scattered about. I also think fairy lights, storm lanterns and hanging lanterns give a fabulous essence to a room or to mark an entrance.
Recently for a wedding I collected lots of different jam jars, personalised them, tied wire around the neck of the jar for a handle. I then filled them with a tea light and hung them everywhere. Literally. Once the sun started to set and dusk fell the whole gardens lit up, it looked so beautiful. Simple, inexpensive, yet so effective.
As it was threatening rain all day I actually used LED tea lights in the jam jars so as the flame didn't go out but you could use either type ordinarily.
